Verification Statement
Scope and Objective
Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) was commissioned by The Hong Kong and China Gas
Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as “Towngas”) to undertake an independent verification of the
Sustainability Report 2012 (hereinafter called“the Report”). The Report stated the overall sustainability
performance and efforts made by Towngas for the period from 1st January 2012 to 31st December 2012. The
verification team did not partake in the compilation of the data and information of the Report.
The aim of this verification was to provide assurance on the completeness and accuracy of the information
stated in the Report.
Methodology
The process used in this verification was based on current best practices. The Report was reviewed based on
the following criteria:
• The principles of completeness, accuracy, neutrality, comparability and responsiveness, as set out in the
Institute of Social and Ethical AccountAbility standard AA1000, and
• The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3.1 Guidelines.
The verification procedure included reviewing relevant documentation, interviewing responsible personnel
with accountability for preparing the Report and verifying the selected representative sample of data and
information consolidated in the Report. Raw data and supporting evidence of the selected samples were
thoroughly examined.
