Governance and ManagementTo further enhance the business risk assessment framework for Hong Kong’s operationsNew Corporate Risk Management Manual was issued in April 2007. Enhancement training on risk assessment techniques and skills was also held.
To establish a Green Ambassadors Club working directly with contractors and dealersA special appointment ceremony was held in 2007. A total of 24 contractors and dealers were enrolled as Green Ambassadors.
 
SafetyTo develop and implement the PAS 55 asset management system to enhance gas infrastructure safetyWe achieved the certification covering the major gas supply infrastracture in June 2007. Towngas is the first gas utility in Asia to attain this global standard.
To obtain OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system certification for two subsidiaries, ECO Energy and U-Tech Engineering, in Hong Kong and two joint ventures in mainland ChinaU-Tech achieved OHSAS 18001 certification in July 2007. ECO Energy completed its certification audit in December 2007 and will achieve certification in 2008. JVs in Wuhan, Longkou and Huzhou achieved certification in January, February and October 2007 respectively.
To reduce the corporate Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) from 0.67 to 0.57, and the corporate Injury Traffic Accident Rate (ITAR) from 3.05 to 2.59Corporate AFR fell to 0.32 in 2007 and corporate ITAR to 1.81.
 
EnvironmentTo commence the use of landfill gas from the NENT landfill site as a heating fuel in gas productionNENT Treatment Unit was successfully commissioned and began supplying landfill gas to Tai Po Plant from May 2007. The official Commissioning Ceremony was held in January 2008.
To investigate the potential for operational improvements (including the shutting down of part of the carbon dioxide stripping plant) with the increasing use of natural gas in gas productionInvestigations were completed in 2007. Operational arrangements commenced in 2008. A power saving of over a million kWh is expected in a year.
To complete feasibility studies for the use of degradable paper pulp moulded packaging for gas appliancesThe feasibility study was completed. Trials showed that the packaging failed to provide the necessary protection for appliances.
 
EmployeesTo complete a preparedness plan in the event of an influenza pandemic in Hong KongA Corporate Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic was issused to deal with the possibility of such an emergency arising from an influenza pandemic.
To advance tailored training and development programmes for senior staffDeveloped the Towngas Leadership Competency (TLC) Model in early 2007.
 
CommunityTo strengthen relationships with District Councils in Hong KongThe Towngas District Council Focus Team regularly meets with District Council members to foster two-way communications and support a wide range of community activities organised by DC members.
To continue programmes providing support for underprivileged children in Hong KongIn 2007, about 700 children from 14 districts participated in our Towngas Cooking for Fun programme, learning English through cooking.
